Arokodare Outlines Ajax Ambition After Impressive Debut
Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his desire to score goals and help new club Ajax win matches.
Arokodare made an immediate impact in Ajax’s opening fixture of the season against ZEC Zwolle last weekend, registering an assist in the 2-0 victory.
The Nigerian striker started the game on the bench before being introduced in the 73rd minute and went on to make his presence felt.
Arokodare Happy With Winning Debut
“I enjoyed it. Of course, we didn’t start perfectly, but we finished the way we wanted, and that is with a win and two goals,” the Nigerian told Ziggo Sport.
“I enjoyed making my first official minutes. It was also nice to provide an assist.”
No Issue With Bench Role
Arokodare was unfazed by his omission from the starting line-up for the away fixture.

“Everyone wants to start, but sometimes there are bigger things than what a player wants,” he added.
“Sometimes the team and tactical decisions come first. Maybe physical reasons too. You never know. I came on as a substitute and I did my job.
“If this is my role for the whole season, I am going to do my best to fulfill it. If I start, I will do my best too. I just want to score and win.”
Jordi Cruijff Influence
Arokodare revealed that Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff played a key role in convincing him to join the club.
“He told me about the team he wants to build. Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands. The last few seasons haven’t been the best,” Arokodare said.
“I am ready to chase those dreams, which is to become champion and win every competition we enter.”
