…Campaign council accuses opposition party of owing staff over 12 months’ salaries
…Alleges Atiku, Aregbesola have records of unpaid workers’ salaries

The Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Nigerians to reject the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its candidates in the 2027 general elections, accusing the opposition party of owing its workers more than 12 months’ salaries.

The APC-PCC said the alleged failure of the ADC leadership to pay its staff contradicted the party’s promises to Nigerians and raised questions about its capacity to manage the country’s affairs.

The accusation was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Alake alleged that the ADC National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as chairman and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as secretary, had neglected the welfare of party workers for more than a year.

He described the alleged non-payment of salaries as unacceptable, arguing that workers who depended on their earnings for their daily sustenance should not be subjected to such hardship.

“We find it unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months,” he said.

According to him, the development exposed what he described as the insincerity of those presenting themselves as alternatives to the ruling APC.

The APC-PCC spokesperson further accused the ADC leadership and its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, of pursuing political power for personal interests rather than the welfare of Nigerians.

He argued that a party unable to meet its financial obligations to its own workforce could not be trusted to manage the affairs of the country.

Alake also accused Atiku of having a record of unpaid salaries, alleging that workers at his Gotel Communication and other businesses had experienced months of delayed payments and staged protests over outstanding salaries and benefits.

The APC-PCC spokesperson equally criticised Aregbesola’s record as governor of Osun State between 2010 and 2018, alleging that his administration struggled to pay workers and pensioners.

He recalled that the administration introduced half-salary and quarter-salary payments for civil servants at different times, while accusing it of leaving pensioners without adequate payments for more than four years.

Alake claimed that the alleged failure to pay pensioners had subjected many of them to severe hardship, with some dying without access to basic necessities.

He said the alleged failure of the ADC leadership to pay its workers was consistent with what he described as the poor records of some of its leading figures in managing workers’ welfare.

The APC-PCC spokesperson consequently called on Nigerians, particularly workers, to reject the ADC, Atiku and all candidates contesting on the party’s platform in the 2027 elections.

“We are sounding a warning to Nigerians and working people now: reject ADC. Reject Atiku Abubakar and reject all ADC candidates in the next general elections,” he said.

Alake maintained that Nigerians should scrutinise the opposition party’s management of its internal affairs before entrusting it with national leadership.

He argued that the welfare of workers should be a fundamental responsibility of any political organisation seeking to govern the country.
